The El Limo mountain range stretches from east to west across the Loja province of southern Ecuador, close to the Ecuador-Peru border. The highlands of this area make up the Bosques de Marfil, a 200hectare nature reserve. Within these highlands is where the 44 small-scale producers who produced this lot live and farm. These producers have a long heritage in coffee production, farming traditional varieties of Typica, Bourbon and Caturra, all known for yielding high quality cherry at the high altitudes the highlands in the area provide. With the average age of these producers being 60, there's a real risk these long traditions won't be passed on. But more and more producers are starting to introduce their children and grandchildren to the business, passing it down to future generations. The cherry was fully washed at micro-mills at each farm, before being dried on patios. This lot was sourced by Caravela Coffee, who finished processing coffee at their dry mill at origin. This is our first ever coffee from Ecuador! Expect an easy drinking, fruit driven, juicy cup. Stone fruit fills the aroma, full of peach, apricot and nectarine, with a floral element joining on the fragrance. A peach iced tea note brings sweetness, with blueberry providing a subtle acidity and juicy body. Floral notes linger long after the coffee is gone.
