The Izuba Washing Station is located in the commune of Kabarore, a northern area which sits right on the Burundi-Rwanda border. Coffee production is the main focus of the area, with the 784 families that make up the commune all supplying harvested cherry to the station. The local producers and station management are focusing on creating a simplistic and sustainable ecosystem for the area; coffee pulp and water from the washing process is recycled for future crop.
This is our first ever naturally processed coffee from Burundi and we're extremely excited to share it with you! The fragrance of a berry medley jumps out from the grounds, think strawberry, blackberry and raspberry, with a creamy vanilla note coming through afterwards. The first sip brings these notes to the tongue, sweet blackberry and a heavy, creamy body combines to give the sensation of a velvety yogurt. As the cup cools, vanilla and caramel overtake, with a prominent sweetness that coats the mouth. Throughout a boozy, blackberry liqueur note persists in the aftertase.
