The Gachenge estate is a 9 hectare farm, sitting around 1750masl in the Kirinyaga County, central Kenya. The estate is owned and operated by Steven R.G.G. Until recently, it was difficult for Steven to market his coffee as a single lot; previously it would have been mixed with other farmers' crop and marketed as part of a grower's group or a washing station.
Cherry is handpicked before being pulped. The coffee is dry fermented for 16 to 23 hours, before being washed in clean water. Another 12 hour fermentation takes place, before the parchment is dried on raised beds for 14 to 21 days. Parchment is turned regularly to ensure even drying.
Sourced by Sucafina Specialty. Sucafina work in Kenya through their sister company, Kenyacof. They help farmers by providing agricultural training, alongside facilities to mill the coffee as an individual lot.
