Fazenda Irubi sits in the state of Minas Gerais, near the city of Guape. It is one of two farms owned and run by the Scanavachi; the other is in the neighbouring state of Sao Paulo, near the city of Espirito Santo de Pinhal. Paulo Scanavachi runs Fazenda Irubi, which is a relatively small sized farm for the region, spread out across uneven terrain. His daughter, Ana Paula, helps run the farms as well. The family comes from a long line of coffee producers, and this tradition is set to continue with Ana as the next generation. This lot from the Scanavachi was imported by our friends at Kamba Coffee. We source the majority of our Brazilian coffee from Kamba, who focus on building long term relationships with the producers they use. They have a particular close relationship with the Scanavachi family; the general manager of Kamba is a close school friend of Ana Paula Scanavachi. Stone fruit fills the aroma. Plum and peach appear first in the cup, yielding a soft acidity with a pleasing sweetness. Toffee sweetness balances the cup, caramelised sugar and butter also providing a chewy mouthfeel. A lingering note of walnut finishes the cup.
